Effect of knock down of ALDH1A1 on the caspase-3 activity in response to palmitate. After culturing the cells in antibiotic-free medium for 24 h following transfection, cells were treated for 24 h with control (4% BSA) or palmitate (0.7 mM) media for another 24 h. The caspase-3 activities were measure with a fluorescence-based assay using a commercially available kit. Data presented as mean +/- s.d. of n = 9 from 3 independent experiments.
