Model 2: This intermediate model extends Model 1 to include the effects of Ca2+-binding cooperativity. In this model, the first Ca2+ occupied site is assumed to influence and increase the affinity of the second site. The second site, in turn, increases the affinity of the third Ca2+ binding site. The process continues until a CaM molecule is fully bound. This level of modelling allows a qualitative comparison of the concentration profiles for apo-, intermediate- and fully bound Ca2+-CaM species with and without cooperative binding as shown on Figure 5.Back to article page
