Response of the Diamond IFFL motif with signaling cycles to periodic stimulation in function of σ. The average response <Z > T of the protein Z of the Diamond IFFL motif with signaling cycles (Fig. 1 (e)) is shown for a pulsatile stimulation. σ0 is the minimal inter-pulse interval for the system to respond. The inter-pulse interval σ1 gives the optimum average response for the system and σ2 is the maximal inter-pulse interval for the system to respond. The numerical simulation was done with the equations (9–11) and with the following parameters: k = 4 min-1, k' = 2 min-1, Y1Tot= Y2Tot= 500 nM, α = 0.01 min-1, β = 10nM.min-1, θ1 = 180 nM, θ2 = 230 nM, τ = 0.1 min.
