The steady state analysis shows that this should result in a depletion of BX and X. The temporal analysis shows the expected ordering of this depletion: first X is depleted, then BX. Note that the initial conditions correspond to a steady state with a non-zero production rate of B. The response of the system to a step change in production of B (starting from zero) is shown in b). The initial conditions here correspond to a steady state with a non-zero production of A. The result is qualitatively similar, except production of B is less able to deplete AX, since K >>K B .
