The "monostable multivibrator" mode occurs in response to membrane hyperpolarisation. The model predictions are shown for the ciliary response to membrane hyperpolarisation. The phase diagram analysis (A) suggests that the nullclines for Ca2+ and membrane potential V always intersect at a single point that correspond to a steady-state solution in the whole physiological range of possible inward current values, I0. The model shows that this type of system always generates a Ca2+ impulse in response to any alteration of inward current, I0, within the physiological range (B).
