Model development processes. (A) Establishment of the network structure and straightforward model development. Within three main steps, the ab initiomodel is iteratively expanded and refined by means of experimental data and statistical (hypothesis) testing. Subsequent model predictions again serve for data-based model validation and statistical model selection. (B) Seven main modeling phases guided the way from the platelet signaling network creation and to the model-based design and prediction of new experiments within this study. These single modeling steps (white boxes) are further explained (gray boxes) referring to our study on platelet signaling.
