Independently of the correlation between ν LAC(a → n) and glucose partitioning observed in Figure 5, neither variable shows significant correlation with the activation level. This results from the absence of constraints imposed by stoichiometry on the rate of neurotransmission (hence on the glutamate-glutamine cycle), the latter being compatible with a large set of solutions relative to glucose partitioning and lactate shuttling.
