From: Modeling heterogeneous responsiveness of intrinsic apoptosis pathway

Figure 9

Effect of combined intrinsic noise and extrinsic noise in the amount of Cytochrome C and IAP proteins on the stochasticity of the time delay of CEA response. Stochastic model of intrinsic apoptosis pathway subject to intrinsic noise plus the extrinsic noise in the amount of Cytochrome C (CC) and IAP proteins is simulated using Gillespie algorithm, while assuming the mean numbers of CC and IAP proteins are log-normally distributed with a coefficient of variation CV = 0.25 across cells. Eight copy-number conditions of c9p = {5×103,104} combined with c3p = {10,102,103,104} are implemented in the simulations. The resulting coefficient of variation of the time delay of CEA activation, T d , is plotted as 2D heat map versus the mean amount of CC and IAP proteins under specific copy-number condition of [c9p, c3p]: (A), (C), (E), (G) respectively for [ 5×103,10], [ 5×103,102], [ 5×103,103], [ 5×103,104], and (B), (D), (F), (H) respectively for [ 104,10], [ 104,102], [ 104,103], [ 104,104]. Note that the heat maps in each row use the same color scale for the convenience of comparison.
