Effect of TPK gene deletions on HSE-dependent gene expression. Strains were transformed with plasmid pRY016 (2 μ) containing an HSE-CYC1-lacZ reporter gene. Growth and temperature treatments were performed as described in Methods section. Values are reported as β-galactosidase specific activity (nmol of hydrolyzed ONPG min−1 mg−1 protein) and are the average and standard deviation of at least three independent experiments. Bars that do not share at least a common letter differ significantly (P < 0.05). Strains assayed were: WT (W303-1a), tpk1Δ (KG712), tpk2Δ (KG604), tpk3Δ (KS580), tpk2Δ tpk3Δ (KS590), tpk1Δ tpk3Δ (KS700), tpk1Δ tpk2Δ (KS710), tpk2Δ:: TPK2 tpk3Δ (KS590-URA3-TPK2)
