Diagram illustrating the computational simulation to find the relaxation time for the model. The environmental concentration is kept at a constant value until the concentration in all tissues reaches a steady state. The environmental concentration is then increased slightly and kept at the new level until the tissues reach the new steady state. The environmental concentration is then reduced back to its original level. We then measured the amount of time it took for the whole body and for each tissue to drop halfway back to its original steady state value (the relaxation half-life, t 1/2 )
