From single-cell to collective behavior. Representative survival curves are shown for populations of 1, 10, 100, and 1000 cells. The number of live cells is computed from N l i v e ( t ) = ∑ i = 1 N Θ ( a ( t ) − x i ) , where x i is the threshold of the cell i of a population of N initial (live) cells. The threshold x i is chosen randomly from the distribution for the cell type "Bcl-xL 1E1" inferred from the experimental data (Figure 2).
