The UPR response against stepwise escalation of the ER stress levels. The mild, moderate and severe stress conditions as in Figure 12 are administered sequentially for a duration of 500 time units each. The elevation of active PERK, BiP and CHOP, the status of translation, and the activation of BAX on mitochondrial membrane are shown with respect to accumulating UFP. The grey shade indicates active eIF2 α, which represents the relative rate of translation. The initial conditions have been extended towards the negative time axis in order to demonstrate the punctuality of the translational response. The plot is drawn as in Figure 12, and the legend is given on top of the plot.
