Occurrence of localized patterns of the competing population with a growth advantage of 3 . 5, an inhibition of 2 . 2 and a diffusion constant of 10 -3 . Various patterns may emerge in this parameter set, among which double-stripe patterns are the most dominant (51.5%), followed by single-stripe (23.7%) and then multi-stripe (23.3%) patterns. Only about 1.5% of initial conditions result in extinction for one of the species. Here, 104 runs with random initial conditions are used to generate the statistics.
