Here X is the complex Cdk1-cyclin B1 formed by the cyclin dependent kinase Cdk1 and the mitotic cyclin B1, “cyt” indicates that the species is in the cytoplasm, “nuc” that it is in the nucleus, and X ∗ is phosphorylated CdC1-cyclin B1. Phosphorylation of Cdk1-cyclin B1 only takes place in the cell nucleus.
