A role for SSA1 and SSA2 in the repression of HSE-dependent gene expression. Strains transformed with reporter plasmid pRY016 were grown in SD medium at 25 °C until mid-exponential phase and treated at different temperatures as described in Methods section. Data shown represent the average and standard deviation of at least three independent experiments. β-galactosidase specific activities are reported as in Fig. 2. Bars that do not share at least a common letter differ significantly (P < 0.05).
